Outback Bikes: the official bike shop of FM:Race

kurt's picture

Choosing the best bike shop to sponsor FM's race team was easy. Outback bikes is the only shop in Atlanta that has the expertise and inventory to support a kick-ass track team AND a lip-huckin' mountain bike team. Plus they are conveniently located in L5P. And, of course, we heart Ross and Amelia. And you, too, Pete.

They have been super generous to support a completely unproven, grass-roots, mostly beginner race team and I want to send a public "Thank You!" to the Outback crew. Next time you are in there stockin' up, please let them know you are grateful for their support of FM and the ATL cycling scene.

If you buy a bike from them

If you buy a bike from them like I recently did, you now get free service for life. It probably doesn't cover everything but probably covers most things!

My moutain bike was pretty messed up after my fall that messed me up, and even though I bought it from them ~2+ years ago, they trued both my wheels, straighted both my disc rotors, and did a few other things for me free of charge!

Edgy

I don't know any of the employees in there but Edgemont. He helped me out a while back, and was incredibly helpful and friendly, and thus became the reason I've gone back there again.

.

Eh, Edge has promised to order me about half a dozen parts and call me once they're in. He has epically failed on all counts.

Everyone else has been great there though.

ordering parts can be an

ordering parts can be an epic problem at any bike shop. when you ask for a part they don't have, they offer to order it, and proceed to write your order into the middle of some binder that looks like the journal for some kid that missed his riddalin dose.

If you manage to get past this impasse and actually get the order placed, chances are your part will arrive, get placed on the shelf, and sold to the first person who sees it. see, the person unloading a delivery is usually not the person who placed the order.

So here is my advice:
When you ask for a special-order part, insist that it gets written down NEATLY. Ask when the order will be placed and who will be placing the order. Once the order is placed, follow up on your date of delivery to make sure it arrived and ask them to set it aside. I don't think these are outrageous requests and if the bike shop wants your repeat business, they will probably oblige.

That being said, I have been waiting on salsa quick releases from APB for about a month.

..

again, not hating on outback, but intown bikes and bike south have always gotten my parts.

ditto

i'm experiencing epic failure as well

Thanks for the love, guys! I think I can safely say I represent all my fellow Outback crew when I say we <3 ya right back, FM!

Oh yeah and as far as orders go... We know it's a weak point, and we've been working on it a lot in the past couple of months. We actually have an order form now, and we've been signing and dating things! I know, right? Woah! We still kinda need you to lean on us here and there, but we're gettin' better, I promise!

griggey's picture

I'm coming by today to see whats up about my shoes... I've called a few times and I keep getting told later and later dates.
